Prime Minister's Address to the UN General Assembly: A Call for Peace and Justice

UNO: By Amjad Siddique

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Mr. President, Heads of State and Government, Distinguished Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Peace be upon you!

It is a great honor for me to address the UN General Assembly for the second time as the Prime Minister of a country that has always been an active member of the UN family.

I congratulate you, Mr. President, on your election as the President of the 79th session of the General Assembly, and I thank Ambassador Dennis Francis for his skilled leadership during the 78th session.

Our Commitment: Our founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, declared in 1947 that "we stand with the UN Charter and will offer our full services for global peace and prosperity." Pakistan has always upheld this commitment.

Current Global Challenges: Today, we face the most pressing challenges: the genocidal war in Gaza; the dangerous conflict in Ukraine; devastating conflicts in Africa and Asia; rising geopolitical tensions; resurgent terrorism; rapidly increasing poverty; a debt crisis; and the growing impacts of climate change. We feel the chill of a new Cold War!

In response to these challenges, our Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has called for a future conference. As a result, 54 measures have been adopted in the future agreement concerning development, peace and security, technology, and global governance.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: Today, I stand before you to express deep sorrow and anguish over the suffering of the people in Gaza. Our hearts bleed as we witness the tragedies unfolding in this sacred land, shaking the conscience of humanity and the foundation of this institution.

Can we remain silent as children are buried under the rubble of their destroyed homes? Can we ignore mothers holding the lifeless bodies of their children? This is not just a conflict; it is a systematic massacre of innocent people, an assault on human life and dignity. The blood of the children of Gaza stains not only the hands of the oppressors but also those who prolong this cruel conflict.

We must remember that the innocent sacrifices of the Palestinians will never be in vain. We must work towards a sustainable peace through a two-state solution, seeking a viable, secure, and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem. Palestine must also be recognized as a full UN member!

Escalation in Lebanon: Recently, Israel's continuous bombardment of Lebanon has claimed over 500 lives, including women and children. The failure to implement UN resolutions has emboldened Israel, threatening to drag the entire Middle East into a war with severe and unimaginable consequences.

Kashmir Issue: Like the people of Palestine, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have struggled for their freedom and right to self-determination for over a century. Instead of moving toward peace, India has backtracked on its commitment to implement UN Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir, which call for a plebiscite to allow the people to exercise their fundamental right to self-determination.

Since August 5, 2019, India has initiated unilateral illegal actions to implement what it calls the "final solution" for Jammu and Kashmir. Nine hundred thousand Indian troops continue to terrorize the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir with oppressive measures, including prolonged curfews, extrajudicial killings, and the abduction of thousands of Kashmiri youth.

Conclusion: The people of Kashmir are determined to reject the false identity imposed on them by New Delhi. The brutal policies of India ensure that the legacy of Burhan Wani continues to inspire the struggles and sacrifices of millions of Kashmiris. Pakistan will continue to support the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people against India's illegal occupation.

The UN and its Secretary-General must play a key role in implementing Security Council resolutions to provide the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self-determination.

Peace in South Asia cannot be established until a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, in accordance with UN resolutions, is found. The threat of war is increasing as India destabilizes the region with its aggressive policies. The global community must hold India accountable for its aggression.

The world cannot be governed solely by powerful countries. We need a global system based on principles of justice and equality. The use of excessive force is the most destructive force. All geopolitical and political issues must be resolved through negotiations and peace, not war.

Pakistan will continue to provide every possible cooperation for global peace and stability. We are a key part of UN peace missions and will always strive for peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

We stand with the global community in the fight against terrorism. Pakistan has paid a heavy price in this struggle and will continue its efforts to eradicate terrorism.

In conclusion, I assure you that Pakistan will remain committed to promoting peace, development, and human rights across all UN forums. We are bound by the principles of the UN Charter and are ready to work with the global community based on these principles.

Thank you!
