Tribute to Workers and a Call for a Just Society
ISLAMABAD – On the occasion of International Labour Day, Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani delivered a powerful message honoring the unwavering efforts of Pakistan’s working class. He emphasized that May 1st is more than a symbolic date—it is a celebration of human dignity, relentless struggle, and national progress.
“Workers are the backbone of any nation,” said Gilani, highlighting the vital contributions of laborers in fields, factories, construction sites, and across all sectors. He stressed that the progress of a country is directly linked to the strength and perseverance of its workforce.
The Chairman stated that without providing social, economic, and legal protection to the labor class, sustainable development remains an unfulfilled dream. He urged society to recognize and uphold the dignity of labor, ensuring justice, peace, and prosperity across the nation.
Senate’s Commitment and PPP’s Legacy
Chairman Gilani reiterated the Senate’s proactive role in advocating for workers’ rights, improving working conditions, and promoting social justice. He reaffirmed the Parliament’s commitment to lead all legislative and policy-making efforts aimed at bettering the lives of workers.
He paid homage to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, calling them pioneers of workers’ rights in Pakistan. Their revolutionary policies laid the foundation for labor empowerment in the country, he noted, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party continues to uphold this legacy as the cornerstone of its political ideology.
Focus on Families and the Future
Chairman Senate stressed the importance of securing a better future for the children of workers, ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and opportunities. “No child should be forced to give up their dreams due to poverty,” he said.
In his message, he called upon the government, private sector, labor organizations, and civil society to form a collaborative system that guarantees fair wages, workplace protection, and dignity for all laborers.
A Pledge for Prosperity and Respect
Concluding his address, Gilani urged every citizen to take an oath on this Labour Day—to protect workers’ rights, elevate their standard of living, and build a Pakistan where every hardworking hand is rewarded with respect and prosperity.
