On the occasion of Labour Day, Senator Sherry Rehman, Vice President of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), paid rich tribute to the tireless efforts and invaluable contributions of workers in Pakistan and across the globe.


> “On Labour Day, I salute the hard work and unmatched contribution of workers towards global development,” said Sherry Rehman.


She emphasized that the wheel of the economy and progress of the country runs on the strength and dedication of its workers.


> “The engine of our country and economy moves forward because of the labour force,” she stated.


Sherry Rehman highlighted that the Pakistan Peoples Party has always been a strong advocate of workers’ rights and their welfare. From legislation to policymaking, PPP has consistently taken concrete steps for the betterment of the labour class.


> “PPP introduced vital labour laws, policies, and took practical steps for workers’ rights and welfare,” she added.




Remembering the efforts of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, she noted:


> “Shaheed Bhutto introduced Pakistan’s first comprehensive Labour Policy in February 1972 and strongly advocated for labour rights in the 1973 Constitution.”




She further pointed out that PPP founded the Employees' Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) in 1976, giving workers a share in their institution’s income.


> “In 1976, Bhutto Shaheed established EOBI to ensure long-term support for workers,” said Sherry Rehman.




Referring to recent advancements, she mentioned that under the 18th Amendment, the PPP-led Sindh Government launched a Provincial Labour Policy in 2018, aiming to provide the rightful protection and benefits to workers.


> “The Sindh Labour Policy 2018 is a testament to PPP’s continued commitment to worker welfare,” she affirmed.



Sherry Rehman reiterated that the PPP is and always will be the flagbearer of labour rights in Pakistan.


> “We laid the foundation of workers’ struggle and rights in this country, and we remain committed to upholding their dignity and welfare,” she concluded.
