Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of CultuRise in Islamabad, underscoring the vital importance of preserving Pakistan’s cultural heritage for future generations. He welcomed CultuRise Chairman Dr. Mohammad Amjad, distinguished guests, diplomatic envoys, and UNESCO representatives, praising the initiative’s modern and revolutionary approach to heritage conservation, education, and advocacy.
Gilani highlighted that safeguarding cultural assets is essential not only for educating youth about civilization and societal values, but also for fostering a collective commitment across governments, institutions, and individuals. He noted that world-renowned sites—from Spain’s Alhambra and Hungary’s Buda Castle to Pakistan’s own Mohenjo‑daro, Lahore Fort, and the historic gates of Old Multan—are part of a shared human legacy demanding international cooperation.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s rich archaeological tapestry, the Chairman described its heritage as a bouquet of diverse civilizations, languages, and traditions. He traced the country’s legacy from the ruins of Takht‑i‑Bahi in ancient Gandhara through Mughal-era monuments, to the blue tiles of Multan and the intricate mirror‑work of Sindh and Balochistan, and the delicate woodcraft of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Yet he warned that rapid urbanization, neglect, and modern pressures threaten to erode these foundations of national identity.
Reaffirming the Senate’s dedication, Gilani pledged to mobilize legislative support, invest in education, skill development, and public awareness to ensure Pakistan’s tangible and intangible heritage becomes a source of pride for tomorrow’s generations. He emphasized that culture and the arts form a universal language through which Pakistan can promote peace, harmony, and a positive global image.
In closing, the Chairman called upon every attendee—and indeed every Pakistani—to become ambassadors of their heritage, uniting to protect the stories, traditions, and masterpieces that define the nation’s character and inspire its youth.
